Ord inom yt och kolloidkemi

När man använder ord som "surfaces" inom yt och kolloidkemi - tex som i meningen:

Vad syftar man då på med surfaces?

Det samma undrar jag om partiklar? - vad menar man med detta ordet jämfört med molekyl/klump av molekyler/annat
